Posts

The next four posts are samples of brainstorming that have fit narrative prompts we have worked on in class.  Encourage your child to pick an event and PLAN it using the timeline strategy.

This is the timeline students have been instructed to use to PLAN their narratives.  If you should have questions please feel free to contact me.

REVIEW WEEK

The STAAR Writing test will be conducted next week, April 1st and 2nd.  Please be advised that on test days, we ask that you not bring your child's lunch or will be permitted to eat in the cafeteria with them. In addition, please refrain from scheduling appointments that would require your child to be checked out before 1:30 pm.   Regular schedule will resume on Thursday, April 3rd. I will be posting review materials throughout the week to aid in preparation!!  Thanks!!

Here is an example of transitions sentences students can use to take the reader from the beginning of their expository piece to the middle.  I have challenged them to be more ambiguous.  :)

Expository Writing Plan with Introduction and Conclusion.  The Introduction paragraph should include:  a lead, an expert sentence (this sentence gives the reader an idea of the writer's experience with the topic), and a transition sentence (this sentence prepares the reader for the knowledge that will be shared in the writing).  The conclusion should include two of the following: a reminder, a prediction, or a invitation.

Spelling Lists

Parents - Please remember that you can find a copy of your student's spelling lists on spellingcity.com.  Your student has a user name and pass word specific to spellingcity.com.  I will offer extra credit from time to time for your student's time at home on the app or website.

We are beginning Expository Writing in class.  We are referring to it as the "Ex Factor" - Expository means to explain a topic that you are an expert on with information, examples, feelings, and opinions you have gathered from your experiences!!

Transition Words - Use the words in the box marked with "1st" at the beginning of  your composition, the words in the box marked with "end" at the end, and the words in the unmarked boxes in the middle.

Spelling City

Beginning next week, students will have access to spellingcity.com to help them study for their master and personalized list.  Students will  have a log on and a password.  Please visit this site this weekend and become familiar with various opportunities!!
